FG begins investigation into the death of 26 Nigerian teenagers

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun an in-depth investigation into the death of 26 teenage Nigerian girls who reportedly died in the Mediterranean Sea, off coast of Italy, while attempting to cross from Libya to Europe.According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, “The Italian security officials who made this discovery are yet to confirm if they were murdered, tortured or sexually assaulted and why all who died were female. Indeed, this is a monumental loss and a sad moment to our country. As more investigations are being conducted on the unfortunate incident, the Federal Government wishes to commiserate with the family members of the victims.” Elias-Fatile further said the ministry has received a reliable report from the Nigerian Mission in Rome ascertaining that bodies of 26 teenage Nigerians, all of whom are girls, were discovered in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
